Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What does your logo represent?

Answer: The National Black Marathoners' Association's (NBMA) official logo is a symbolic race number. The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution abolished "slavery and involuntary servitude" on December 18, 1865. After that date, Blacks were "Free to Run" without interference.

Question: Is there a membership fee to join?

Answer: There are no membership fees. However, feel free to make a contribution to the scholarship fund for high school distance runners.

Question: I'd like to start a running club in my area. What's the best way to get started?

Answer: The Road Runners Club of America (www.rrca.org) has a great document entitled "How to Start a Running Club." It offers information about holding your initial meeting, establishing bylaws, and putting on races.
