Scholarship Run

The National Black Marathoners Association has raised over $25,000 dollars in scholarship for high school and college students. In 2015, hundreds of NBMA members helped raise funds on National Running Day in June. National Running Day, now called Global Running Day, is a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running. Participation is easy—just pledge to take part in some type of running activity on this particular day. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving.

The Beginning of the Scholarship Fundraiser

In 2015, NBMA started the first Scholarship Run dedicated to raising money for scholarships on this day. Thanks to the “Run a Mile, Save a Mind” fundraising drive, the NBMA awarded $6,000 in scholarships to four students. Three $1,500 scholarships were awarded to graduating high school seniors. Now in its 3rd year, the NBMA is proud to have it’s first ever dual medal for two virtual fundraisers held on Global Running Day (June) and Kwanzaa (December).
